[news] Potential New Project: Boyfriend (Souryo Fuyumi)

Summary: (From Manga Updates) Takatou Masaki is the second youngest of four sons, and seemingly a delinquent by nature. His hot temper has put a wedge between himself and his strict father, gotten him kicked out of one school, and tossed him at a school notoriously horrible for the one thing he's truly good at, basketball. A chance encounter with the willful Yuuki Kanako may serve as a catalyst for change, as the indefinable connection she feels with him draws them together...

Won Shogakukan Manga Award in 1988.

Hello, everyone! It's been a while, and I've been allowing my scanlating skills to wither. Now that it's summer, I've been spending far too little time doing productive things, so it's about time for me to pick up a new project. I had considered picking up a few neglected series (among them NIGHT HEAD and the rest of ILEGENES) but both of the aforementioned series seem to have groups that update with reasonable regularity. Thus, I settled on BOYFRIEND by the endlessly talented Souryo Fuyumi (Mars, Eternal Sabbath, Cesare).

Two volumes have been scanlated by other groups. One group seems to have picked it up a while back, but two of the releases were spaced about a year apart, so I thought I might give this one a shot; it's excellent and deserves to be read. It is an older series, but it doesn't disappoint with its unique style and the mangaka's uncanny ability to develop wonderful, relatable characters. I've started scanlating it and have several pages finished. I just wanted to drop a quick note to say that I'm alive.Boyfriend is a long series (10 volumes), and I don't think I'm capable of reliably translating all of them. I'm not even sure if I'm worthy of touching even a page of this wonderful mangaka's work. However, I pray that you guys will stick with me as I try to work through this one.

Well, now that I've said it, I can't back down. Look forward to awkwardly-translated releases, coming (hopefully soon) to an internet near you. In the mean time, pick up the scanlated volumes and read them—you won't be disappointed!

Thank you!
Thank you so much!
I have been so wanting to see more of this series and have been encouraging other groups when they as for suggestions (assuming the series is appropriate for their style of series).
This author can work in so many different genre's and not make you feel that you should have a handy check list of cliche's to go through and mark off as the author covers each one. Heck, I bet she could do a shoujo with the same plot as is shared by a bunch of other series and you still would get the appreciation that she made it into something so much more worthwhile.
There is even a bright side where you won't have to get grief from DMP or another publisher since it is an older series.
If I had the time to work on scanlation, I would offer help editing but as it is, I am working too much overtime to help.
Good luck!!!!!!

Re: Thank you!
Thank you so much! I'm really happy to know that I have support going into this. I'm worried that I'll be causing problems for the current scanlation group by snatching this beautiful series from them, but I'm torn in both directions—I really want to bring this amazing series to more readers!

And I agree completely. This mangaka could make stale bread seem fresh. She has an enviable power to bring her characters and setting to living, breathing life in a way that makes you want to keep reading.

I appreciate your kind thoughts! I scanlate mostly as a challenge to myself (so that I can keep my floundering translating and scan-editing "skills" alive and polished), so I'll get through this and hopefully release with reasonable regularity. ^^;;

I've always loved Souryo-sensei's works and I've been trying to look for more to read but some remained un-scanlated. Thank you so much for picking up this project. It's something delightful to look forward to. :)

I'm a Fuyumi Soryo fan...a big fan, and I'm happy you're giving it another chance of being scanlated. I'm just dropping by to show my gratitude, cause when I found out the scanlations were discontinued, I was heart broken. Thanks for reviving it~~ I'm so happy someone revived it. A billion of "Thank You"!
How much I can thank you for picking up this so-waited work?! It's already two years than I'm waiting to read it and everytime the releases are so damn slow...
You are doing a great work and I hope you can do it until the end of the manga. I love so much this story, as I love all Fuyumi sensei's works.
If you should have problem with it, I can help you with cleaning and editing, I hope you didn't quit it, I'm so desperate to read this manga! *_*
Thank you so much!

Re: A billion of "Thank You"!
I'm so glad you enjoy this mangaka's work! I also love everything she writes. I certainly plan to keep scanlating this series until the end, but my classes this semester have left very little time to study and sleep, much less scanlate. I hope to release the next chapter soon, though! Hopefully I'll have some time at the end of this week when Thanksgiving break starts... :D

Re: A billion of "Thank You"!
Classes have always the first place, scanlation can wait :D
I'm very glad you will scanlate until the manga's end, this is enough to make me wait without anxiety. ^ ^
